Grasshopper alternative

A Grasshopper alternative for teams that outgrow a virtual number

Grasshopper is a long-running virtual phone service that puts a business number on your own cell phone, priced per account rather than per user. D Line is a full cloud phone system priced per workspace, with unlimited users and extensions, recording on both plans, and an AI agent included. We make D Line; every Grasshopper detail below links to Grasshopper's own pages, checked Oct 2026.

A fair fit check

Who should choose which.

Choose D Line if…

  • Your team takes calls at desks and in the browser as well as on mobile, and wants proper extensions for everyone.
  • You want recording and an AI agent on the entry plan: Base is $20/month for the whole workspace.
  • You want call queues, business-hours routing, team chat, and team video calling in the same app on Advanced.
  • You want to add people without moving up a plan to unlock more extensions.

Choose Grasshopper if…

  • You are a one-person business that mainly needs a second number on your mobile; True Solo is $14/month billed annually.
  • You want several numbers on one plan: Small Business includes four.
  • You rely on virtual fax today and want it included rather than on request.
  • You prefer a long-established virtual-number brand with 24/7 phone, email, and chat support.

Switching

How to move from Grasshopper to D Line

Do not cancel Grasshopper before the port completes. Cancelling first can release the number.

  1. 01

    Set up D Line first

Start a 14-day trial, invite your team, and build call menus, ring groups, and voicemail on the temporary number. Users and extensions are unlimited on both plans.

  2. 02

    Get your Grasshopper account details

Note the account number, any account or port-out PIN, and the name and service address exactly as Grasshopper has them. A recent bill helps.

  3. 03

    Check numbers and fax

List every Grasshopper number, including any extra local or toll-free numbers and your fax number, so each one is included in the port request.

  4. 04

Request the port in D Line

Sign the Letter of Authorization (LOA) and submit the port from the phone numbers area of your workspace. Porting in is free, and eligibility and timing are confirmed before the move.

  5. 05

    Test, then cancel

When D Line confirms the port, test inbound calls and texts, register texting (10DLC) if you use it, then cancel Grasshopper.
